Have you noticed an issue with your hearing aids? You might need hearing aid repairs. Hearing aid repairs can be arranged and completed by your audiologist. Audiologists are experts and know exactly what type of issues can develop as well as how to fix them. So, let’s look at some of the ways that you can damage your hearing aids and in doing so discover the most common hearing aid repairs.

Snapped hook

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids have a hook that connects to the device and allows it to sit comfortable over the ear. While the hook is usually metal or plastic, it is quite slim and can be easy to break. Holding it the wrong way could be enough to cause it to snap. It’s no surprise then that this is one of the most common hearing aid repairs that an audiologist sees.

This isn’t the only issue of cause that can be due to a physical break. BTE hearing aids also have tubing that can be easily damaged over time. These plastic tubes are no more than a millimeter in diameter and are used to transmit sound through. They can also be easily cracked or damaged which will impact the overall quality of the sound that you can hear using the device.

Clogged with earwax

You might find that the hearing aid isn’t actually damaged but rather it’s just a mess. It’s important to be aware that the ear is self-cleaning. This means that earwax and other dirt is pushed up and out of the ear. However, if you are wearing hearing aids, then this process can be blocked. Instead, the earwax builds up around the device itself and in the tubing. This quickly stops the device from working properly. An audiologist can usually handle this for you, carefully cleaning the device and getting it back to good working order.

Damaged mold

It is possible that the mold of the hearing aid has been damaged. This is the part that fits inside your ear. It can be damaged simply by not keeping it in the case when not in use or due to typical wear and tear. However, the issue can be fixed by simply replacing the mold with a new piece. Your audiologist can easily complete this type of repair by taking impressions and creating a new mold.

Moisture damage

Hearing aids are not designed to be worn in the water, including the shower or heavy rainfall. Moisture can damage the electrical components in your device and can lead to extensive repairs. Remember to remove your hearing aids when surrounded by water and always place in proper storage.
